Abbreviations


SE = Societas Europaea (European Company)
SNB = Special negotiating body (body set up to represent the employees of the participating companies during negotiations on employee involvement in the SE)
EWC = European Works Council (transnational employee information and consultation body), normally replaced by an SE Works Council
AOB = Any other business (miscellaneous information)


Explanatory notes on the fields


BLANK FIELDS in a factsheet indicate that either the information is unknown or the field is not applicable to this SE (for example, 'Headquarters before SE' for a subsidiary SE).

The data refers to the time of founding (if not indicated otherwise). As regards negotiations on worker involvement this represents the relevant phase.

Document number (TED)

The official EU document number of the company, published in the online version of the Supplement to the Official Journal of the EU (Tenders Electronic Daily - TED)

National registration number

The national registration number of the company.

Sector of activity

Business sector in which the SE operates (for example, chemicals, metals). The sectoral classification used in this database has been created in view of classifying companies by the area of interest of the different European Trade Union Federations that co-ordinate EWC and SE activities. The sector corresponds to a number of NACE codes. For details see here

Status

Established: An SE which has been registered

Planned: A company which has started the official process of registering as an SE

Archive:
a) Deregistered: An SE which has been deregistered from the national registry. (Please note that technically in many registers, companies are still there and searchable even if they already have been liquidated e.g.).
b) Transformed SEs: A (former) SE which has been turned into a national company (for example, into a plc).

SE type

Normal SE: A normal SE is an SE with operations and at least 6 employees.

Empty / Micro SE: An empty SE is an SE with operations, but without or very few (<= 5) employees . Its business purpose can be, for example, asset management.

UFO SE: An SE concerning which insufficient information for classification is available (for example, on the number of employees) is referred to as UFO SE. This group also contains so-called shelf or shell SEs. These are SEs which initially have neither operations nor employees. Some specialized companies offer shelf SEs to customers so that they can set up in business very quickly (activated shelf SE).

Headquarters of the SE

The country and city where the headquarters of the SE are situated. The registered office of an SE has to be located in the same member state as its head office

Form of establishment

Conversion: A public limited liability company converting into an SE

Holding: Public and/or private limited-liability companies forming an SE by means of a holding company

Subsidiary: Companies forming a subsidiary SE by subscribing to its shares. Registered SEs can also set-up subsidiaries in the form of an SE.

Merger: Public limited liability companies forming an SE by means of a merger. The merger can take either the form of an aquisition or the creation of a new company.
